Manufactured by Steyr Mannlicher OEWG Steyr of Austria in 1890. Maker marked and dated on top of receiver. Side of receiver marked GEW 88. This rifle was sent to support Turkey in WW1 and has Turkish rear sight markings. Numbers do not match. Regimental marking on front barrel band 40.R.9.178. Original stock cartouches faintly visible. Bore good plus. Strong rifling, tight muzzle with some exterior pitting. 8mm Mauser.
