Circa late 18th to early 19th Century Balkan flintlock pistol from Southeastern Europe, Ottoman Empire area. Wood stock covered in brass sheet with extensive decoration to the brass surface. Round grip. Brass trigger guard. Round steel barrel with minimal decoration. Flintlock action is a European supplied commercial action inletted into the wooden stock and has the mechanism internally, possibly French or Spanish origin. Damage to brass covering at rear of lock shown in photo. Provision for rod but that is missing. Overall length 18 ½ inches (47cm), barrel length 11 ½ inches (30cm). Bore diameter appears to be about 62 calibre smoothbore with corrosion evident. Action cocks and works but not recommended as spring is very strong and this puts extra stress on the pistol. Complete with flint. Fascinating ethnological artifact. Antique, no licence required to purchase or own.
