Another incredible example of a transitional rifle during the mid 19th Century period that showed constant evolution of firearms from flint lock to modern bolt action rifles. The Wanzl breech loading rifle was converted from the muzzle loading Lorenz and used in European wars during the 1859 – 1866 period as well as being sold to US for the Civil War. Caliber is 14 x 33R Wanzl rimfire. Very researchable. This specimen is marked 859 on the lock indication the year of production as 1859, also the Austrian eagle on the lock plate tail. Overall length 53 inches, barrel is 35 inches and rifled bore is very good plus with no corrosion. Numerous markings on the top of the action and barrel. Antique firearm, no license required to purchase.
