Two artillery shell casings from German WW1 7.7cm gun made into highly detailed trench art vases. Both are identical with the exception of battle and date markings as follows. 48th Highlanders of Canada WWI cap badge. Motif includes the French tricolour flag crossed with the British union jack. On the left and right sides of the casings is a thistle representing the Highland regiment Canadian 15th Battn which is engraved across the front. “Courcelette” and “Le Sars” is on one case while “Pozieres” and “Thiepval” is on the other. Below that is “Souvenir Somme Sept. 1916” on one case and “Souvenir Somme Oct. 1916 on the other. The 15th Battalion CEF was one of three battalions raised by the 48th Highlanders of Canada for service in World War One. Extraordinary workmanship with original patina and in excellent condition. Sold as a pair only.
