Description

Stielhandgranate 1916. Early model stick grenade with large canister that is 4 1/8 inches (105mm) tall and 2 7/8 inches (72mm) diameter. The canister explosive was ammonium nitrate hence a larger quantity was required for the explosive force. Canister is empty and missing all but one of the sealing tabs from the top so it does not stay in place by itself. Canister unscrews from the handle. No stenciling remains on the canister. Some original field grey paint remains. Handle is maker marked C.S.S.with a date of 1916 also visible as shown in photo. Cap screws on tightly and has ceramic ball without string.
