British Brass Navy cutlass

Uncommon private purchase version of the 1845 British Navy cutlass used on merchant ships. Grip is brass instead of the common steel grips in use at the time. Guard is steel and was painted at one point with only a little original paint remaining. Maker marked E.Thurkle, Soho, London. Scabbard has a catch and spring button release. There are a few spots of corrosion near the guard visible in photos but otherwise the blade is very good condition. Blade length 27 inches, overall 32 ½ inches. Brass mounted leather scabbard is in very good condition with one dent in the locket as shown and fits the blade perfectly.
