CA$695.00
Very rare bomb in original condition with propeller arming device at nose, missing one clip for nose cap. Original paint remaining. A complete example of this projector and bomb is currently on display in the little-known private museum at Notre Dame de Lorette French National War Memorial and Cemetery. Photographs from this museum included as shown in this listing. The origins of the mortar using this projectile requires research and includes Norwegian designs, use by Russian and subsequently France in 1915 and 1916. This projectile is 86mm and could probably have been fired from more than one model of mortar. It’s a short-range weapon firing shrapnel, smoke or incendiary rounds. The projectile is frequently called the 86mm Excelsior Thevenot, Excelsior B or Excelsior AB. Original sheet metal projectile is very rare since it would deteriorate easily. Research keywords: Aasen mortar, Mortier Aasen, Obusier Aasen de 86mm, Nils Watersen Aasen.
