Very nice military issue 3 draw Telescope Sig.(Signaling) Mk IV also GS (General Service) by R. & J. Beck Ltd., London dated 1917. Leather covering in very good condition. The leather on the sliding lens cover is marked with the sniper/observer’s initials CWH and the locations of “Candas France, August 10, 1918”. Candas is a commune north of Amiens and west of Arras and was likely the front line of advance in the early phase of The Last Hundred Days beginning on Aug. 8, 1918 at the Battle of Amiens. The leather cover is also marked Bailecourt, which is likely as mis-spelling of Bullecourt and dated Sept. 26, 1918 indicating an advance of 40 to 45km from Aug. 10 to Sept. 26th consistent with progress of that battle.
