Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk III bayonet

Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk III bayonet

British Pattern 1851 Minie Socket bayonet

CA$195.00
British socket bayonet made for the Pattern 1851 Minie rifled musket. Very similar to the earlier Pattern 1842 socket bayonet used on the P1842 smoothbore rifle except for a two significant and measurable changes in dimensions. The socket inner diameter of the 1851 bayonet is 22.5mm instead of 24mm and the slot to muzzle distance of the 1851 is 32mm compared to 39mm for the 1842. Dimensions vary slightly from book values due to wear and tear. Original condition, not cleaned, retains sighting groove in rim. Maker name partially visible on ricasso. No scabbard. Interesting and uncommon example of socket bayonet during an important era of firearms development.
