Maker is Thomas Manton a first cousin to well known firearms makers John and Joseph Manton and likely to have made very few firearms so surviving examples of his work are uncommon. Pistol circa 1817 - 1825. Heavy octagonal barrel 5 inches in length, 0.5 inch bore, 10 ¼ inch overall. Very nicely decorated with checkered wood grip, engraved metalwork and pineapple finial ahead of trigger guard. Original condition, not cleaned or otherwise altered.
