Lock is marked 1845 over ENFIELD with Board of Ordnance marking beside. Stock cartouche is Enfield 1845 with issue date of 1846 beside. Brass butt tang has regimental markings Roman numeral 23 (XXXIII) over 507. Left side of stock beside action shows various stampings. British marking on barrel is Enfield 1844 ENFIELD. Bore is very dark. Barrel tang broken, percussion nipple very worn. Small chunk of wood missing from stock between cock and nipple. All four brass ramrod pipes are present. Stock is held to barrel by wedges with caps, one wedge is missing. Well used uncommon percussion musket.
