Lock marked Crown over VG, 1867 Enfield. Top of breech II**, broad arrow WD. Barrel has numerous proofs with broad arrow WD repeated. Left side of butt shows DC in diamond while right side cartouche is clearly London Armory Compy, 1862 date over the numeral “1”. Brass butt tang has been cleaned and inspector’s mark faintly visible, no regimental marking. Bore is Excellent, bright with strong rifling. Unclear why this stock is marked London Armory Compy (exactly as spelled – not “Armoury” which is the British spelling). The front sight has a piece dovetailed onto the existing base and is too high to mount the Pattern 1853 bayonet without modification.
