Original Mk III Cavalry Carbine, .577 Snider, 19 inch STEEL barrel. Lock clearly marked Crown/VR, Enfield 1871 dated. War Department stamps and proof marks throughout. Stock cartouche visible R.M. Enfield 1. Butt tang is marked with number 21. Bore is very good plus, bright with strong rifling. Rear sight graduated to 600 yards, WD marked, proofed and serial number 4495. Two original screw studs on stock each side of rear sight for leather cover which is not present. Wear pattern on stock shows that the leather sight cover was in place on this carbine when in use. Two piece cleaning rod is not present on this specimen. An uncommon early military firearm in Canada with only 2,500 reported available by Defending the Dominion. Antique firearm, no licence required to purchase or own.
