Very interesting WWII artifact that tells a story by closely examining it. Started life as a US M3 fighting knife, Utica manufacture. The condition of the blade suggests it spent time on the ground, blade subject to rust and staining, but was recovered, perhaps by a Resistance fighter and cleaned up. A leather scabbard was fashioned for the knife using a German leather belt, folded over and riveted to create the scabbard with a keeper strap added that is actually from a German 98k bayonet frog as indicated by the shape and distinctive aluminum button. Belt loop is small to fit civilian belt.
