US M1917A1 Helmet

$195.00

Original Brodie style helmet shell stamped bowl style copied the British design then in use. Liner is the later, post WWI  4 flap leather style with leather pad at crown. Sometimes referred to as a Kelly helmet, but nobody seems to know why. This helmet design was used by the US early in WWII until replaced by the familiar M1 helmet. Original leather liner and pad has handwritten name G.F. Russo. Original paint with crushed cork for non-reflective texturing. No chinstrap, no leather drawstring at crown. Interesting markings on the shell appear to be A V over 4 and the name ALLEN  for Edgar Allen & Co. steel supplier. Beside that with a diamond shaped stamp and faint lettering.  These markings are very uncommon. Non magnetic helmet shell.
