Design copy of the French 1866 Chassepot bayonet for use on the Remington No. 1 rolling block rifle produced by Remington on contract for the Egyptian government in 1867 – 1869. Distinctive straight mounting slot on the back of the handle and lack of chamfered mortise lead at the pommel. Maker marked with knight’s head logo for W. R. Kirschbaum, Solingen Germany. Additional mark on ricasso is star over H inside a shield, unknown. Comes in steel scabbard modified with the long Prussian style frog stud. No markings on spine of blade. Very good original condition, uncommon variant and researchable.
