Premium quality private purchase percussion pistol made by Reeves Greaves & Co. of Birmingham circa 1850. Uncommon to find a pistol by this fine British maker because of its very short production life for handguns. Traveler’s pistols were designed for personal self defence by coach passengers and travelers on dangerous roads and were an intermediate arm between large military pistols and small pocket pistols. Eight inch length barrel and 14 inches overall. .65 inch large bore to ensure stopping power against highwaymen. Elegant and extensive hand engraved scrollwork on metal parts. High quality walnut grips with engraved steel butt cap which has hinged trap for additional percussion caps. Captive swivel ramrod in very good condition. Custom belt hook on left side. Hammer has half cock safety that slides into place on lock plate. Antique, no licence required to purchase or own.
