Issued and used Pattern 1888 bayonet Mk 1 2nd type with clearance hole in handle and hole in pommel to take cleaning rod. Fits Lee Metford or Lee Enfield No. 1 rifles. Crown over VR marked, 8, ‘96 dated (August 1896) with numerous proofs. Opposite side shows Broad arrow over WD with Enfield proof and bend mark. Pommel marked 12 over 6 with matching numbers on top of locket. Comes in leather Canadian Oliver pattern bayonet frog 1888/1893 model with additional loop in leather to hold entrenching tool handle .
