British made by Horace Chavasse, Birmingham and ricasso marked with his last name CHAVASSE.  Chavasse is a known exporter to the Confederacy in the US Civil War. Muzzle ring is positioned farther from the blade for use on “bar on band” carbines. Pommel is marked B over 79 and that is repeated faintly on the right ricasso. Original condition with some staining and corrosion to the blade. Steel mounted leather scabbard is in only good condition with corrosion to the chape and staining on the locket.
