Martini Pattern 1875 sawback bayonet 1st Type

$1,895.00

The Pattern 1875 bayonet 1st Type with 18 inch blade is uncommon as Skennerton records that this sealed pattern was in fact an error and the 2nd Type with 20 inch blade was the correct sealed pattern. O/A 23 ¼ inches. Blade length 18 inches/ Scabbard length 19 inches. MRD 20mm enlarged from original 18mm as manufactured. Solingen made with WKC knight’s head logo clearly marked on ricasso. Opposite side shows Birmingham proof, Broad Arrow WD acceptance and additional arrow for out of service marking. The crossguard is numbered 2329. This bayonet was clearly issued and used with the sawback showing wear from use and the top of the pommel being hammered. Steel mounted leather scabbard is in very good condition and is the later version, post 1880, with rounded chape. Comes with original darkened leather frog. Very interesting specimen for collector of British bayonets.
