Original British WW One Mark 1 helmet. Mild steel rim on the edge indicates 1916 or later production. Maker mark BS for W. Beardmore & Co. Ltd. Glasgow. Number 9 may be a heat treatment lot number. Non magnetic manganese alloy helmet shell, called Type B version. The liner including all leather and chinstrap is in surprisingly good condition. Bail is brass wire and held with the usual split rivet distinctive of British made Mark 1 helmets. CAUTION, the liner of this helmet may contain asbestos. OK to display, not for wear.
