Topcover marked M.A.N. Nurnberg 1917. Top cover opens, bolt can be retracted, missing top cover latch. Topcover numbered 5790, cocking handle 790, receiver 5790, feed block 5902. No pistol grip or trigger survived. Wooden butt has 4CMR and date 8/8/18 scratched into it. Aug. 8, 1918 is the first day of the Battle of Amiens, beginning of The Hundred Days and the Black Day of the German Army. A very interesting example of the classic German WW1 LMG. Deactivated.
