First pattern of the Model 1898 bayonet with one piece grip known as the a/A (alter Art – Older Model). Grip has chip our of right side as shown in photos. Maker Simson & Co., Suhl. Spine clearly marked Crown over W proof. Crossguard regimentally marked 236.R.657. Made to fit GEW 98 WWI infantry rifle. Pipeback/quillback style blade in very good condition, sharpened. No scabbard.
