First pattern, older model or a/A (alter Art) with one piece wooden grip. Made to fit the GEW 98 World War One German infantry rifle. Maker marked Erfurt. Crossguard is regimentally marked. Interesting pipeback blade appears to have been mounted in a vise as there are markings on both sides of blade as shown in photo. Steel scabbard painted black. Comes with regimental knot or trodel which has become disassembled but all pieces appear to be there. Cord is fragile.
