British East India Pattern 1844 Socket Bayonet

Triangular blade pattern, 3 7/8 inch long socket with diameter to fit the Brown Bess musket. Long slot is too long to fit Brown Bess musket since the socket hits the end of the stock before the stud can seat into the L shaped slot. Overall length 19 ¾ inches, blade length 16 inches. This pattern has a steel spring fitted to the long L shaped slot to keep the bayonet on the barrel stud. Although frequently seen with East India Company logo and supplied to the Indian Army this specimen is not marked. Very good condition, no scabbard.
