Uncommon bayonet for the P1839 Percussion Musket. Shape is fundamentally an India Pattern Brown Bess bayonet with a catch added at the back of the socket to engage the Lovell pattern catch. British marked, crown over 40 inspector’s number. Maker name visible as are other markings on the ricasso. Socket marked RM 13. Tested and this bayonet fits the Pattern 1839 rifle as well as the P1842. No scabbard.
