Jagerstutzen, or sharpshooter’s rifle with 28 inch barrel and rear sight graduated 400 – 1000 schritt ( an Austrian pace of about 29 inches). Ferdinand Fruwirth mark “Ferd.Fruwirth” on top of barrel. Imperial eagle on rear of lock is unclear and barely visible. There is a cleaning rod attached to this rifle. Approx.  6,249 Jägerstutzens were imported by the North during the Civil War. They are often called Austrian short rifles.
