Description

Matchlock wall gun 19th Century in very good original condition. Circa 1850. Original wood stock with red varnish finish. Barrel has flat sides (faceted) at the upper section and becomes cylindrical toward the muzzle with a raised ridge along the top. Simple rear sight and front sight with fluted decoration at the muzzle. Matchlock mechanism works. Bore is smoothbore and very corroded. Brass rest below barrel has traditional Chinese language characters 指日高陞 which we are advised is an expression of “good luck” perhaps literally meaning “wishing you rise in rank soon” but difficult to translate the context easily into English. The characters are Traditional Chinese, not Mandarin or Cantonese. A rare item. Antique, no licence required to purchase or own.
