The Pattern 1839 Musket was the first percussion infantry long arm to be widely issued by the British military and was in reality an updated Brown Bess India Pattern. Many of the P1839 percussion muskets were made from Brown Bess India Pattern surplus parts. Overall length 55 inches, barrel is 39 inches, .75 inch calibre (smoothbore). Lovell pattern bayonet catch and original ramrod. Lock is Crown over VR and TOWER marked. British proofs on barrel. Broad arrow over BO board of ordnance mark on butt stock and M&D Militia & Defence marking on left side of stock opposite hammer. Bore has some shine with evidence of light pitting. A very nice example of this uncommon percussion musket. The lock is very good, strong spring and works well on full and half cock. The percussion nipple shows wear and corrosion to be expected from use. Antique, no licence required to purchase or own.
