Crown over VR, 5, “96 dated with War Department marking on ricasso. Pommel marked with numbers 48 over 13. The 48 is for the 48th Highlanders and the leather Oliver pattern frog is also marked 48-H on the back. Owner marking Crowes Beach, 4/2/44 and name, faintly Jack Burgess. Leather Canadian Oliver pattern bayonet frog 1888/1893 model with additional loop in leather to hold entrenching tool handle .
