German 1898 a/A bayonet

First pattern of the Model 1898 bayonet with one piece grip known as the a/A (alter Art – Older Model). Made to fit GEW 98 WWI infantry rifle. Wood grip has tiny crack near pommel but is sound and does not flex. Maker marked ERFURT. Crossguard faintly marked 64.R.158. Spine marked with Crown over W dated 02 with proof mark. Pipeback/quillback style blade in very good condition. Steel mounted leather scabbard has locket marked 159.R.12.255 and the leather appears to have been bent at some point as shown in photo. Scabbard is rigid and does flex at the bend point.
