Victorian Brown Bess flintlock musket introduced in 1840 with all of the design elements of the India Pattern musket such as 39 inch barrel, reinforced cock and simplified stock design. Original flint lock marked TOWER and well worn Crown over VR with clear viewer’s mark. Left side of breech has military proof marks, well worn but visible. Top of barrel shows C broad arrow suggesting this musket came from the stock sent to Newfoundland. The butt stock shows clear Broad Arrow with BO (Board of Ordnance) marking and bottom of the butt stock shows fire damage suggesting this is a survivor of the Tower of London fire in 1841 that destroyed most of the Victorian Brown Bess muskets there awaiting conversion to percussion. An uncommon Brown Bess musket with a uniquely Canadian connection.
