1851 Cavalry Carbine, .71 caliber heavily rifled barrel. 30 inch overall length, barrel is 14 ½ inches with rear sight remaining at the very back of the barrel. Percussion lock with lock plate marked 852, likely the year of manufacture 1852. Left side has single cavalry sling ring on long bar. There is a crack in wrist. Carbines of this model were purchased from Europe for use in the US Civil war but there is no indication that this particular item was used. Mechanism works on full and half cock, strong spring. The bore is in poor condition with much corrosion and there is residue in the bore about 12 ½ inches from the muzzle.
