Brass fittings indicate British Navy use. Lock marked Crown over VR, 1862 TOWER. Transitional rifle of the Pattern 1856/1862 type. Researchable. Birmingham stock cartouche bears date 186(2?) and the name J. Fogarty is stamped into the stock at the wrist. Barrel well marked with proofs and sold out of service stamp. Butt tang is well marked V over Gc over E2 and rifle number 428. The V usually designates a volunteer unit and the Gc the area or county. Numerous setup markings on the underside of the barrel.
