The Pattern 1839 Musket was the first percussion infantry long arm to be widely issued by the British military and was in reality an updated Brown Bess India Pattern. Eg. Third Model Brown Bess. Many of the P1839 percussion muskets were made from Brown Bess India Pattern surplus parts. Overall length 59 inches, barrel is 39 inches, .075 inch calibre (smoothbore). Lovell pattern bayonet catch and original ramrod. Lock is VR marked Tower manufacture, not dated. British proofs on barrel. BO with arrow board of ordnance mark clearly visible on right side of butt stock. Letters JB stamped on left side of stock grip. Bore is smoothbore with some shine and evidence of corrosion. A very nice example of this uncommon percussion musket. Antique, no license required to purchase or own.
