Description

Original British WW One Mark 1 helmet with exterior painted with various motifs. This was sometimes referred to as a “coming home” helmet as the painting was only allowed for returning home, not for service. Mild steel rim on the edge. Maker mark appears to be D/F – unknown maker. Number 10-3 may be a heat treatment lot number. Non magnetic manganese alloy helmet shell, called Type B version. The liner and leather fittings including chinstrap are present but the cloth covering the rubber ring pad is not present. Bail is brass wire and held with the usual split rivet distinctive of British made Mark 1 helmets. CAUTION, the liner of this helmet may contain asbestos. OK to display, not for wear.
