This is an original round, empty and inert. Used with the Pak 38 anti-tank gun. Frequently called 5 cm Arrowhead ammunition, it is essentially a tungsten core with ballistic cap and mild steel body. It resembles the squeeze bore ammunition in shape of projectile The British and Americans would call this a sabot round. The projectile has been removed, case emptied and reseated firmly at the first flange in the sabot so that the arrowhead design is evident. Marked INERT near the base and also scratched into the side of the casing, no doubt done in the field at time of capture.

Used in the Panzerbusche 41 anti-tank gun that operated on the ‘Squeeze Bore” principle. The projectile has external flanges that were squeezed from 2.8cm at the chamber to 20mm at the muzzle thereby propelling the projectile at a higher velocity to enable greater armour penetration. Highly researchable. This specimen is original. The projectile has been removed and all propellent emptied from the case and primer removed from the case. The projectile has been reseated in the case mouth to show the flanges and crimped in place so that it is very firmly held. Case has clear stenciling as shown in photo and dated 1940. Headstamp clearly marked. Comes in a cardboard protective sleeve that is stenciled 2.8 cm Pzgr Patr. 41 and has the name of the soldier that captured this round scratched into the side Capt.\Bond.
