Brown Bess Crown over VR C broad arrow

Victorian Brown Bess flintlock musket introduced in 1840 with all of the design elements of the India Pattern musket such as 39 inch barrel, reinforced cock and simplified stock design. Original flint lock marked TOWER and well worn Crown over VR with clear viewer’s mark. Left side of breech has military proof marks, well worn but visible. Top of barrel shows C broad arrow suggesting this musket came from the stock sent to Newfoundland. The butt stock shows clear Broad Arrow with BO (Board of Ordnance) marking and bottom of the butt stock shows fire damage suggesting this is a survivor of the Tower of London fire in 1841 that destroyed most of the Victorian Brown Bess muskets there awaiting conversion to percussion. An uncommon Brown Bess musket with a uniquely Canadian connection.

Dreyse Needle Gun Model 54

Dreyse Needle gun. Marked Model 54. Called Jaegerbusche M/54. Barrel length: 24 inches. Overall length: 43 ¾ inches. Does not have integral bayonet and has only forward nosecap “band” similar to Model 1865 but no provision for cleaning rod. Receiver dated twice 1858 as shown. No barrel bands, barrel held in place by sling loop screw. Iron butt plate tang has markings as shown. Action is not fully working but bolt opens with some coaxing. Restoration required for smooth operation. Bore is excellent, bright with strong rifling. Antique firearm, no licence required to purchase or own.

Snider Enfield Mk III cavalry carbine with cleaning rod

Original Mk III Cavalry Carbine, .577 Snider, 19 inch STEEL barrel. Lock clearly marked Crown/VR, Enfield 1870 dated. War Department stamps and proof marks throughout. Bore is 5 groove rifling, good plus, some shine rifling and evidence of corrosion. Comes with firing pin protector and chain, leather pad is worn off. Rear sight graduated to 600 yards and has screw studs with leather sight cover. Uncommon two piece cleaning rod is present in the butt. An uncommon early military firearm in Canada with only 2,500 reported available by Defending the Dominion. Antique firearm, no licence required to purchase or own.

Enfield Pattern 1844 Yeomanry Carbine

Lock clearly marked Queen’s crown over V.R. and dated 1844 with viewer’s mark. Smoothbore 20 inch barrel in good condition, some shine with surface corrosion, .65 carbine calibre. Broad arrow BO marked butt stock. Top of barrel has many clear British proof marks as shown in photo. Simple fixed post rear sight and captive ramrod mechanism in very good condition. Sling bar with ring on left side of carbine. Brass trigger guard has pistol grip extension.

British Victorian Enfield percussion carbine

Lock marked Crown over VR and Enfield. Barrel is 29 ½ inches, overall length 45 ½ inches without front or rear sights and no sign of sights having been mounted. No lug for mounting bayonet. Stock nosecap has cutout for Lovell catch so likely re-used from Pattern 1839 percussion musket. Barrel is pinned to stock with round pins. Two ramrod pipes and iron ramrod. Smooth bore is .75 inch and shows light corrosion. Stock cartouche is Enfield, faint and finished over. Stock proofs and viewer marking on left side of stock ahead of grip. Faint proof on barrel. Looks like a P1839 percussion musket shortened for Sergeant’s use. Trigger guard has 9 digit number etched using electric pencil as shown in photo. Antique, no license required to purchase or own.

Brown Bess P1777 Cavalry Carbine

The practice of shortening the length of cumbersome British flintlock muskets started in the late 18^th Century to produce more easily handled arms with little loss of power. This was particularly common in North America during the Seven Years War where soldiers were moving through forests. Barrel length 26 ¼ inches, overall length 41 ½ inches. Only one ramrod pipe and ramrod is iron.. Bore is .75 inch. With cavalry rod and ring. Hammer cocks crisply and works on full cock, holds on half cock. Bore condition is poor.

Martini Henry Mk IV

Long lever Martini Henry Mk IV receiver marked Crown over VR, Enfield 1887 with board of ordnance mark. Bore is VG with strong rifling and no corrosion. Complete with 2 sling swivels, cleaning rod is a replacement. Trigger guard has 9 digit number etched using electric pencil as shown in photo. Antique, no license required to purchase or own.

P1773 Elliott Flintlock Cavalry Carbine

Original Waterloo era British carbine. Barrel is 27 ½”, Overall 43 ½”. Bore is approximately .64 inch and corroded. Lock is Tower marked with Crown over GR and Board of Ordnance mark. Lock functions very well on full and half cock. Stock marked Crown over Broad Arrow and date 1805, also Broad Arrow over BO and date 1833. Three ramrod pipes closely spaced. Ramrod is iron with swell at the muzzle end into which a groove has been cut. The groove or cannelure fits a notch in the brass nosecap and that connection secures the ramrod to the musket. The ramrod does not seat completely on this specimen, likely due to dirt accumulation in the channel. Comes with cavalry rod missing front attachment screw and no ring.

British Pattern 1856 percussion cavalry carbine

P1856 muzzle loading percussion Cavalry Carbine. Lock marked Crown over VR and TOWER 1861 with crown and arrow viewer mark. Three groove barrel is 20 inches, .577 inch bore and is VG++ condition, shiny with strong rifling. Captive ramrod and swivel mechanism in very good condition. Cavalry sling bar and ring on left side in very good condition. British proofs on barrel and stock at wrist with the word MO_HAM visible. Rear sight has two leafs 200, 300 yards. Antique, no licence required to purchase.

Potsdam 1740 flintlock musket with 1809 type lock plate

41 inch barrel, .75 inch smoothbore is slightly thinned and flared at the muzzle. 41 inch long round barrel, overall length 56 ¾ inches. Barrel has bayonet lug on the bottom near the muzzle and long rounded brass front sight. Iron ramrod. All correct for 1740 musket except lock mechanism is 1809 with rounded edges, no marking, rounded frizzen. Lock does not cock to half or full cock. Musket is completely unmarked. Wooden stock is sound and has “cows foot” design at butt. Brass wrist escutcheon engraved with letters C E and No. 88.
