German Gewehr 98 cut down

Standard German infantry rifle of the Great War. Mauser action with straight bolt handle. 7.92 x 57 (8mm Mauser). Early manufacture 1915 by Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf. All remaining numbered parts match except for bolt. Bore is dark with strong rifling. Converted to a domestic sporting configuration, by cutting down the stock and removing military accoutrements – sling swivel, bolt disassembly insert. Likely a returning soldier complying with Treaty of Versailles rules in civilian life.
