Rare pre WWII German MG17 aircraft machine gun. The MG17 was a modification of the earlier MG30 ground gun that saw removal of the buttstock an conversion from magazine feed to belt feed. Made for use by the Luftwaffe in Messerschmitt 109 as well as Junkers and Heinkel bombers. Well marked on original aircraft mounting base. This specimen is mounted on a small wooden stand built around the cartridge case discharge chute so that it displays upright. Deactivated, mechanism does not move or cock. Rotary feed mechanism is removable as shown in photo. Muzzle brake is removable.
