First pattern 1884/98 bayonet converted from earlier model 1871/84 by removing the muzzle ring and lengthening the pommel to support a bayonet on the GEW 98 rifle. Made by Alex Coppel, Solingen and assembled or converted by the Prussian Royal Arsenal at Erfurt. Marked Crown over Erfurt on left ricasso and Alex Coppel, Solingen on the right. Spine clearly marked with cypher of Kaiser Wilhelm of Prussia, Crown over W over 88 with fraktur inspection mark below. Blade in very good condition with short fuller blade style. Black leather scabbard with bright steel mounting. No maker or regimental markings on bayonet or scabbard. Comes in leather frog with Prussian knot.
